How Tos - A Step by Step Guide
Care and Styling Synthetic Fiber
It is highly recommended that your wig or hairpiece “Topper” be washed every 6 to 8 wears. Please note that the definition of a “wear” is every time you put your wig or topper on your head regardless of the length of time it’s worn. Our scalps give off oils and we can certainly perspire while wearing hair.
By not washing your wig or topper after every 6-8 wears you are running the risk of having your body oils and/or dirt start to break down the cap construction materials, resulting in your wig or topper not lasting as long as you would like.
Keep in mind when combing or brushing your synthetic fiber wig, hairpiece or topper to not use your regular comb or brush, but instead, use a wide tooth comb. If you pull or stretch synthetic fiber it will react much like when you pull on a ribbon when wrapping a present. In other words the fiber will curl and retract causing a frizzing effect.
CLEANSE & CONDITIONING:
- Before washing your wig or topper make sure to gently remove all the tangles with your wide tooth comb.
- Hold wig or topper under COOL running water (If you have well water we strongly recommend using bottled water) until wig or topper is completely saturated. Apply a small amount of our recommended wig shampoo, such as Jon Renau/Easihair Shampoo to the palm of your hand and gently lather the hair fiber. Make sure that you are lathering the hair fiber in a downward direction to avoid tangling. DO NOT rub the hair fiber.
- Rinse thoroughly with COOL water until the water runs clean of shampoo residue.
- Wrap your wig or topper in a towel and gently pat dry. DO NOT twist or ring the towel as this can cause stretching of your wig cap.
- Remove wig or topper from your towel and apply 3-4 pumps of your leave-in conditioner, such as Jon Renau/Easihair Conditioning Spray.
- Gently comb through your wig or topper with your fingers or a wide tooth comb to remove tangles.
- Do NOT put your wig or topper into either the clothes washer or dishwasher as this will severally damage or destroy your wig and/or topper.
- DO NOT use fabric softener to cleanse your synthetic fiber.
DRY AND STYLE
- Once you have your wig or topper combed out and styled in the direction in which you choose, and then place it on a plastic wig stand. DO NOT use a blow dryer to dry your synthetic wig fiber as this will destroy your wig and/or topper.
- If you want to add a little curl, bend, or direction to which the fiber will move you can add Velcro rollers at this time. Note: you will not get the same amount of curl as you would with Bio-hair to dry naturally.
- Allow your wig or topper to fully dry away from any heat sources. Examples: blow dryers, heat vents, or heat lamps. Simply air drying is the recommended way.
- Do not put your wig or topper into the clothes dryer as this will result in severally damaging the wig or topper.
TIPS
- AVOID any heat sources in the kitchen (examples: opening an oven, cooktops, grill, microwave ovens, dishwashers, outdoor patio heaters) anything with direct heat. Sunlight will not cause damage.
- We recommend using a recommended wig detangler, such as Jon Renau/Easihair HD Smooth Detangler after wearing for the day to gently remove any tangles that may have occurred during the duration of wearing your system. This is especially important with Mid-Long lengths wigs or toppers.
Care and Styling of Heat Definite (HD) Fibers
It is highly recommended that you wash your wig or topper once every 6-8 wears. Again keep in mind that the definition of a “wear” is any length of time that you wear your wig or topper counts as a wear.
Failure to wash your wig or topper after every 6-8 wears can result in the cap construction materials breaking down faster due to oils, dirt, and perspiration that are absorbed by the cap after each wear.
CLEANSE AND CONDITIONING:
- Before washing your HD wig or topper, gently remove any tangles with your wide tooth comb.
- Hold wig or topper under COOL water. (If you have well water we recommend using bottled water) until wig or topper is completely saturated. Apply a small amount of your recommended wig shampoo, such as Jon Renau/Easihair Shampoo to the palm of your hand and gently lather the hair fiber.
- Gently comb through your wig or hairpiece with your fingers or a wide tooth comb to remove tangles.
- Do not put your wig or topper into the clothes washer as this will likely result in severe damage or degradation of the cap construction materials and/or hair fibers.
HD DRY AND STYLE
- Once you have your wig or topper combed out and styled in the direction in which you choose place it on a plastic wig stand. It is not recommended to use a hair or blow dryer even on your HD synthetic fiber wig or topper. Air drying is highly recommended.
- Once your HD Fiber is completely dry you can apply heat from a curling iron or flat iron as long as the heat source temperature is at 270 degrees or below.
- It is highly recommended that you use a curling iron or flat iron that has a digital temperature control so you don’t cause damage to your HD fiber.
- Use a recommended heat treat treatment spray such as Jon Renau/Easihair Heat Treat Thermal Spray to each section to protect the HD fiber from your heat source.
- Rule of thumb for guidelines is the smaller the section the tighter the curl and vice versa the larger the section the looser the curl will be.
- Gather hair into curling iron, smooth through to the ends and roll iron up towards the base staying 1” away from the cap material. Note: Heat directly applied to the cap or base of the wig or topper for an extended period of time will damage the cap material.
- Hold curling iron for 10-15 seconds until you feel the fiber getting warm. Release the clip and remove hair fiber from the wand.
- Hold the curl in your hand and secure in place with a small metal clip.
- Continue to the next section until you have the desired amount of curls clipped.
- Allow curls to cool completely (about 5 minutes), remove all the clips and let curls hang naturally.
- Hair can be combed with your fingers or wide tooth comb and styled into your preferred style.
- When using, a flat iron follow the same steps as above. It’s important to use your Jon Renau/Easihair Heat Treatment Thermal Spray for protection of the HD Fiber.
TIPS
- It is highly recommended using the Jon Renau/Easihair HD Smooth Detangler spray specifically made for wigs and hairpieces.
- Allow your HD wig or hairpiece to air dry naturally instead of blow drying to maintain the integrity of the fiber.
- Help protect the fiber against heat damage by using the recommended heat treat thermal spray such as Jon Renau/Easihair Heat Treat Thermal Spray specifically made for wigs and hairpieces.
- Make sure you are using the recommended and controlled heat settings with your styling tools to ensure protection from heat damage to your HD Fiber.
- Please note that Natural Look Salon And Wigs offers its patients and clients the option of weekly or bi-weekly wig and topper styling services for a nominal charge.
Care and Styling of Human Hair
It is NOT recommended that you perm or color your human hair wig or topper as these processes can cause damage to your human hair wig or topper. It’s best to take advantage of our free consultation to have one of our experienced stylist color match your existing hair that closely matches your desire level.
It is also highly recommended to wash your system every 6-8 wears. A wear is defined as each time you wear your wig or topper regardless of how long you have worn it.
The cap construction materials can and will breakdown over time and having exposure to oils, dirt and perspiration combined with not washing after every 6-8 wears will cause the cap materials to break down sooner than expected.
CLEANSE AND CONDITIONING:
- Before washing your human hair wig or topper gently remove all tangles with your wide tooth comb.
- Hold your wig or topper under COOL water to get it completely saturated.
- Apply a small amount of recommended human hair shampoo such as Jon Renau/Easihair Argan Smooth Luxury Shampoo to the palm of your hand and gently run it through your human hair wig or topper in a downward movement. DO NOT rub the hair as this will cause tangling.
- Rinse with COOL water until the water runs clear of shampoo residue.
- Apply a small amount of recommended human hair conditioner such as Jon Renau/Easihair Argan Smooth Luxury Conditioner to the wig or topper avoiding the base of the cap and allowing it to penetrate before rinsing in COOL water. Note: a human hair wig or topper does not benefit from your scalps natural oils as Bio Hair would so it will need deep conditioning periodically to aide in keeping the human hair fiber hydrated.
DRY AND STYLING:
- Wrap your human hair wig or topper in a towel and gently pat out the excess moisture.
- DO NOT use a brush to comb out your human hair wig or topper. Use your fingers or a wide tooth comb to remove any tangles.
Smooth & Sleek:
- Blend 2-3 pumps of Jon Renau/Easihair Argan Smooth Treatment Mist into your human hair wig or topper.
- Apply a blow dry protectant like Jon Renau/Easihair Blown Away. Using a round natural bristle brush like boar’s hair, work through hair in a 2” section starting at the nape. Pin the remaining hair out of the way.
- Blow dry in a downward motion to smooth and direct the hair.
Volume:
- Apply 2-3 pumps of Jon Renau/Easihair Weightless Volumizing Foam throughout hair. Using a round natural bristle brush like a boar’s hair bristle work through 2” vertical sections starting at the nape. When reaching towards the top and crown section over-direct hair for optimal volume.
Volume & Texture:
- Liberally spray a beach wave texturizer such as Jon Renau/Easihair Boho Beach Mist into the hair and follow with volumizing foam such as Jon Renau/Easihair Weightless Volumizing Foam. Allow hair to dry naturally or diffuse for added fullness.
TIPS
- It is recommended to use professional hair care products and heat styling tools that have a digital temperature setting for controlled heat.
- Your styling tools should NOT be set any higher than 350 degrees to maintain the integrity of the hair.
- Always use a thermal protectant such as Jon Renau/Easihair heat treat thermal spray on each section to maintain the integrity of the hair.
- When curling your human hair wig or topper allow curls to cool in a clip to get longer lasting curls. If you want softer curls allow the curls to hang to cool before styling with fingers or wide tooth comb.
- Natural Look Salon And Wigs provides styling services for your human hair wig and/or topper at a nominal fee.
